Brett Davidson, a retired navy veteran who had recently relocated to Calgary, was brutally attacked and fatally stabbed by Cory Miklic, a violent criminal with a history of assault convictions. The incident took place in the hallway of Davidson’s Inglewood condo building on Ninth Avenue, where Miklic, who was on bail for assault at the time, confronted and stabbed Davidson multiple times with a kitchen knife.
During the attack, two neighbors heard the commotion and rushed to call for help as Miklic continued the assault. Despite efforts by bystanders, including the gym manager who applied pressure to Davidson’s wounds, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital a few hours later.
Following the murder, Miklic fled the scene, watched a movie at a nearby theater, and was later apprehended upon his return to the condo building. In court, Miklic pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison with a parole ineligibility period of 13 years.
The senseless and tragic nature of the crime was emphasized by the judge during sentencing, describing it as shocking, appalling, and incomprehensible. Davidson’s family and loved ones, including his new girlfriend, mourned the loss of a kind and loving individual who had moved to Calgary in search of new adventures. The impact of his death was profound, with loved ones expressing disbelief and sorrow over the sudden and violent end to his life.
