Police are currently investigating a break-in at a residence in Nichols Hills, believed to be owned by NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The incident occurred while Gilgeous-Alexander was participating in a game the previous evening. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the homeowner or the items stolen during the burglary.
The burglary was reported around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, coinciding with the Thunder’s game against the Washington Wizards. Law enforcement officers responded to the scene, but the suspects had already fled. Fortunately, there is no immediate threat to the public, as no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
This break-in is part of a concerning trend targeting high-profile athletes in the United States. Notable athletes such as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow, Luka Doncic, and Evgeni Malkin have fallen victim to similar burglaries in recent months. Authorities have warned sports leagues about thieves targeting athletes’ homes on game days when they are away, often accessing the properties through rear windows.
In response to these security breaches, the NBA issued a memo to teams in November 2024 advising enhanced home security measures. Recommendations include installing modern alarm systems with cameras, storing valuables in secure safes, removing online property listings displaying interior photos, hiring security guards during extended absences, and utilizing guard dogs for added protection.
