A Grade 8 teacher from Ontario has admitted to engaging in luring and child pornography activities by using Snapchat to request and exchange nude images with former students.

Kelly-Anne Jennings, 41, appeared in court in Peterborough, Ontario, with parents of the victims present in the audience.

Jennings pleaded guilty to six charges related to incidents from 2023, which included child luring, producing child pornography, and sharing sexually explicit content with minors who were identified as teenage boys previously taught by Jennings.

During the court proceedings, Jennings acknowledged her guilt when asked by Ontario Court Justice Nathan N. Baker about her plea. The Crown requested that additional charges, including one count of sexual assault, be dropped.

It was revealed in court that Jennings had been under the influence of alcohol when she started sending increasingly explicit photos and videos, including images of her engaging in sexual activities, to her former students via Snapchat. The court document also stated that Jennings received nude pictures from the boys upon her request.

A court order is in place to protect the anonymity of the victims and prevent the disclosure of any information that could identify them or the school where Jennings taught.

Kelly-Anne Jennings, a former Grade 8 teacher in Port Hope, Ont., has pleaded guilty to luring and child pornography charges. She used Snapchat to send and solicit nude photos from former students.

One victim’s mother expressed that her son considered Jennings as a second mother figure who genuinely cared for him. She condemned Jennings’ actions as predatory, manipulative, and harmful.

Crown attorney Julie Ann Barrett stated in court that Jennings manipulated and exploited the three boys for her own sexual gratification.

Following the initial allegations, Jennings was placed on unpaid leave from her teaching position at a school in Port Hope, located in Northumberland County, near Toronto.

Later that day, the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland, and Clarington Catholic District School Board announced that Jennings is no longer employed by the board, emphasizing their commitment to supporting the affected individuals.

Although Jennings was listed as a member in “good standing” on the Ontario College of Teachers website, she faced charges in August 2024 after a male student reported inappropriate behavior during a school trip. Subsequently, three more individuals came forward with similar complaints, leading to additional charges.

The Crown has recommended a four-year prison sentence for Jennings. However, her defense lawyer, Dean Embry, has requested a non-custodial sentence of two years less a day, followed by probation.

Jennings is scheduled to appear in court again on November 27.
