“Pembina Pipeline Optimistic about Growth Amid Mergers and Projects”

An official from Pembina Pipeline Corp, a natural gas shipper and processor, mentioned that recent mergers among Canadian producers could expedite projects and enhance the company’s financial performance. During Pembina’s third-quarter results conference call, the chief operating officer, Jaret Sprott, expressed satisfaction with the positive relationships with both U.S.-based Ovintiv Inc. and NuVista Energy Ltd., a company Pembina is in the process of acquiring for $3.8 billion.

Ovintiv, based in Denver, cited the acquisition of NuVista as beneficial due to the 600,000 one million British thermal units of long-term processing capacity it secures. This strategic move is expected to aid Ovintiv’s production growth in the Montney region by five percent annually over the next three to five years.

Moreover, Pembina anticipates a surge in demand for natural gas liquids, essential for diluting bitumen produced by oilsands companies, enabling smoother pipeline transportation. The company also recently secured a 20-year agreement with Petronas from Malaysia for capacity at the Cedar LNG natural gas export terminal in British Columbia, which is under construction.

Pembina’s ongoing projects include proposed pipeline expansions exceeding $1 billion to accommodate the escalating production from the Montney, Duvernay, and Deep Basin regions of Alberta and British Columbia. Further plans involve a possible expansion to the Peace Pipeline system, alongside a condensate pipeline project and an expansion in northeast British Columbia.

Additionally, Pembina and partner Kineticor are close to deciding on the Greenlight Electricity Centre, a natural gas-fired power plant in Alberta. Despite a slight drop in profit to $286 million during the third quarter, compared to $385 million a year earlier, Pembina remains optimistic about its future prospects. Revenue for the quarter was $1.79 billion, marginally lower than the previous year.
