Premier Scott Moe garnered overwhelming support, with over 80% backing from members at the Saskatchewan Party’s recent convention. The leadership vote took place on Saturday, although the exact approval rating percentage was not disclosed by organizers.

Before the vote, Moe expressed his intention to run in the upcoming election while acknowledging the party’s need for improvement. He took responsibility for the losses in Regina and Saskatoon during the previous provincial election, where his government secured a fifth consecutive majority but experienced setbacks in the two major cities.

In the last election, the Opposition NDP claimed all seats in Regina and nearly all in Saskatoon. Currently, the Saskatchewan Party holds 34 seats in the legislature, while the NDP controls 27 seats.

Addressing the audience before the leadership vote, Moe admitted the setback and pledged not to take the members’ support for granted. He emphasized the importance of offering stability for economic growth, contrasting the NDP as being “lost and reckless.” Moe acknowledged the party’s need to regroup and strategize for the future.

Looking ahead, Moe encouraged potential candidates for the next election to start seeking nominations early next year. He stressed the importance of remaining vigilant and not becoming complacent, highlighting the necessity of continuous progress.

Having led the Saskatchewan Party since 2018, Moe previously received a 97% approval rating during the party’s convention in 2023.
