RCMP officials reported a fatality at an ostrich farm in British Columbia, where activists have been protesting a proposed cull for several months. The incident, although deemed non-suspicious, involved the discovery of an unresponsive man by a police liaison team on Monday at the Universal Ostrich Farms protest camp in Edgewood, B.C. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts by officers and subsequent paramedic response, the individual could not be revived.
The man has been identified, but authorities have yet to locate and inform any relatives. Nakusp RCMP is assisting in the investigation conducted by the B.C. Coroner’s Service. Tributes to the deceased individual have surfaced on social media platforms associated with the protest movement, acknowledging his prolonged presence at the camp.
The Supreme Court of Canada is expected to make a decision on Thursday regarding whether to hear the farmers’ final appeal against the cull mandated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency due to an avian flu outbreak among the hundreds of ostriches on the farm.
