“Quebec Court Approves Class Action Against Ticketmaster Over Unfair Fees”

Share

The Quebec Superior Court has approved a class-action lawsuit against Ticketmaster, alleging that the company imposed unfair service fees on ticket purchases. Justice Eleni Yiannakis ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, stating that they have grounds for a full trial and could receive compensatory refunds if successful.

The legal action, initiated by Montreal-based law firm Paquette Gadler, asserts that Ticketmaster’s service fees contravene Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act and Civil Code. The lawsuit argues that Ticketmaster’s fee structure, which varies with ticket prices rather than reflecting actual service costs, is exploitative.

Initiated in August 2024 by plaintiff Felipe Morales, the class action represents Quebec residents who have bought tickets through Ticketmaster for North American events since July 2021. Ticketmaster, a global ticketing platform for concerts, sports, and other shows, has not yet commented on the court’s decision.
