Radio-Canada issued an apology following a TV broadcast in which one of its reporters made antisemitic remarks. Correspondent Élisa Serret, reporting from Washington about U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Israel after Israeli strikes on Hamas targets in Qatar, stated that “the Israelis, in fact the Jews, finance a lot of American politics” and control a “big machine.” Radio-Canada condemned Serret’s comments as “stereotypical, antisemitic, erroneous, and prejudicial” and relieved her of duties. The Quebec chapter of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs criticized Radio-Canada for spreading “antisemitic lies.” Various officials, including Canadian politicians and advocacy groups, called for accountability and emphasized the dangers of normalizing antisemitism in society.
