Peabo Bryson, the talented R&B artist known for his Grammy-winning duets in Disney movies like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, has passed away at the age of 75.
The family expressed their sorrow but also acknowledged the love and impact Bryson had on many lives through his music. Apart from his Disney classics, Bryson was a renowned balladeer in the R&B genre, with hits such as Feel the Fire, I’m So Into You, and Can You Stop the Rain throughout his illustrious career spanning over five decades.
Celine Dion, who collaborated with Bryson on Beauty and the Beast, extended her condolences to his family, emphasizing the comfort and joy Bryson brought through their music partnership. The iconic song, Beauty and the Beast, written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, won numerous awards, including two Grammys and two Academy Awards.
Bryson, hailing from South Carolina, had a successful career recording for various record labels and collaborating with notable artists like Roberta Flack, Minnie Riperton, and Natalie Cole. His musical journey began in the 1970s with hits like Do It With Feeling, and he continued to captivate audiences with chart-topping songs like Tonight, I Celebrate My Love and If Ever You’re in My Arms Again.
In 2018, Bryson made a comeback with his album Stand for Love, marking his first release in over a decade. His latest album, Grace, produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, was released in February. Apart from his musical contributions, Bryson also showcased his talent in stage productions and showed resilience by recovering from health setbacks like a heart attack in 2019.
Following his recent stroke in May, Bryson received medical care, and his family plans to announce memorial arrangements in the near future. Tributes poured in from fellow artists like Jody Watley and Kenny Lattimore, highlighting Bryson’s impact and love for music that touched many hearts during his lifetime.
