The Recording Academy has made adjustments to its regulations for the 2026 Grammy Awards, introducing five new categories. Among these changes is the establishment of a best Asian pop music performance category, honoring artists in the K-pop, J-pop, C-pop, and other Asian music genres.

Additionally, a new best traditional pop vocal performance category has been created for artists whose music diverges significantly from current pop music trends. Another new category, best Latin song, will acknowledge songwriters for their contributions to Spanish-language songs.

The R&B and folk categories have also undergone modifications. A new award for best R&B collaboration or duo/group performance has been added alongside the revamped best R&B solo performance category. The folk genre has seen a transformation similar to country music from the previous year, with the best folk album category now split into best contemporary folk album and best traditional folk album.

In a significant alteration, changes have been implemented regarding the best new artist category. Artists can now submit for this category up to four times, an increase from the previous limit of three submissions. The eligibility criteria now include a screening committee’s assessment of an artist’s impact on the music industry in the eligibility year, with past Grammy nominees deemed ineligible.

Furthermore, the Grammys will allow certain qualified members to vote in more categories. Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, expressed enthusiasm for the forthcoming 2027 Grammy Awards, highlighting the industry’s growth and diversity across various genres and creative endeavors.
