Trailing 21-17 with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter, the Riders orchestrated a 74-yard drive in seven plays to score the decisive touchdown and clinch their spot in the Grey Cup. Meanwhile, the Alouettes secured their place in the championship game by defeating the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 19-16 in the East Division final.
Despite initially leading 14-7 in the third quarter, the Riders fell behind as the Lions scored two touchdowns to take a 21-14 lead. Ultimately, the Riders’ resilience and strategic plays led them to victory.
The game, witnessed by a full crowd of 33,350 at Mosaic Stadium, saw a defensive battle in the first half with both teams combining for 11 punts. B.C. managed to score the only touchdown of the half through a nine-play, 103-yard drive late in the second quarter.
Saskatchewan’s Brett Lauther narrowed the gap to 7-4 with a successful 22-yard field goal at the end of the first half. This victory marks the Riders’ return to the Grey Cup for the first time since their triumph over the Tiger-Cats in 2013.
