Share

A string of five suspicious fires in eastern Prince County, believed to be linked, is currently being investigated by the P.E.I. RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit. These incidents occurred within a two-week span at the end of June and early July, targeting properties in the New Annan, Clermont, and Kensington areas. All the fires occurred in broad daylight and targeted abandoned residential structures.

Cpl. Gavin Moore, the media relations officer with the P.E.I. RCMP, emphasized the gravity of the situation in close-knit communities like Kensington, where such incidents raise significant concerns. He urged individuals with any relevant information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

While the RCMP has not disclosed any potential suspects or arrests, Moore stressed that the investigation is actively progressing, with public tips playing a crucial role. The Major Crimes Unit has been diligently working on the case, interviewing residents and gathering information.

The specific timeline of the fires is as follows: June 24 in New Annan on Route 2, July 1 on Murphy Road in Clermont, July 1 (later in the day) at the same New Annan location as the June 24 fire, July 8 on Irishtown Road, and July 9 on Soloman Gallant Road. Moore urged anyone present in the vicinity during the incidents to report any unusual activities, given the visibility of the fires in well-traveled areas during daylight hours.

Reporting any suspicious sightings or information to the Prince District RCMP or anonymously through Crime Stoppers could aid in advancing the investigation.
