The approaching women’s slalom event at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics is witnessing an exciting rivalry between Mikaela Shiffrin and Swiss contender Camille Rast. Rast recently halted Shiffrin’s six-race winning streak in World Cup slaloms by outperforming her by 0.14 seconds in Slovenia. Despite Rast’s lead after the initial leg in Austria, Shiffrin managed to clinch the win by narrowing the gap on a challenging course.
Following her victory in the recent World Cup slalom race, Rast secured her fourth career win, with Shiffrin acknowledging Rast’s impressive skiing performance. Shiffrin, although satisfied with her own skiing, mentioned pushing herself to the limit during the competition. Rast’s triumph came after she won her maiden giant slalom race, dedicating the victory to the victims of a tragic fire near her hometown.
In the competition, Rast and Shiffrin dominated, with Rast’s teammate Wendy Holdener finishing third, significantly behind. Shiffrin’s teammate Paula Moltzan secured fourth place, closely trailing the leading duo. Shiffrin, a prominent figure in slalom skiing with numerous accolades, continues to break records with her exceptional performances.
Looking ahead, the next slalom race is set to take place in Flachau, followed by another in the Czech Republic before the Winter Olympics. Additionally, upcoming downhill and super-G events are scheduled in Zauchensee. On the men’s side, there were no World Cup races over the weekend.
