A man aged 42 is facing charges of second-degree murder following the death of an 80-year-old man in Oshawa last week. Authorities revealed in a press release on Monday that the accused individual is the son of the victim. The incident occurred on Oct. 16 when law enforcement received a report of an unspecified problem near Simcoe Street S. and McGrigor Street, leading to the discovery of the injured individual, Ibraham Bala. Sadly, Bala succumbed to his injuries at the scene, as confirmed by the police in a subsequent news release.

The Islamic Centre of Oshawa expressed sorrow on Friday, describing the deceased as a highly esteemed member of the community. Having resided in Oshawa since the 1970s, Bala was known for his welcoming nature towards newcomers, according to City Councillor Derek Giberson’s remarks last week. Giberson highlighted Bala’s role in assisting newcomers to integrate into the city and build connections. Authorities also emphasized that Bala was not only a father and husband but also held a special place as a cherished member of the local community.
