Jake Reiner has been experiencing a distorted sense of time since December 14, 2025, where moments feel both prolonged and fleeting. During his first interview since the tragic discovery of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were found fatally stabbed in their Los Angeles residence, Jake shared his conflicting emotions with KABC-TV’s Mark Cota-Robles. Following the incident, their son Nick Reiner, 32, was apprehended and subsequently charged with their murder.

Jake expressed the constant reminder of his harsh reality, stating, “Every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality and you’re living through that every single day.”

During the interview released on Thursday, he recounted receiving a distressing call from his sister, Romy, who had made the grim discovery.

On July 20, Nick was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder in relation to the deaths of his parents, renowned Hollywood figure Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, a photographer and producer. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The indictment, unveiled on August 12, alleged that Nick, who had a well-documented history of mental health issues and substance abuse struggles, had premeditated the attack on his parents.

In a collaborative effort in 2016, Rob and Nick Reiner co-produced a film titled Being Charlie, inspired by Nick’s battles with addiction. The movie portrays the narrative of a rebellious teenage son of a politician who grapples with drug addiction and love for another addict.

Reflecting on the aftermath of the tragedy, Jake reiterated his sentiments of losing a significant portion of his family, including Nick, expressing his ongoing struggle to comprehend the events.

Addressing his complex emotions towards his younger brother, Jake conveyed feelings of anger and frustration towards the situation, highlighting his inability to prevent the tragedy or have a say in the matter.
