Three teenagers are facing assault-related charges following two separate incidents involving teen girls at Oak Park High School in Winnipeg, as confirmed by the police on Monday. One incident involved a 14-year-old girl who was allegedly bullied and physically attacked by a group of teenage girls in a school bathroom on October 2, according to a report by CBC News last week. The victim’s mother stated that the group accused her daughter of making negative remarks about them, mocked her Ukrainian accent and appearance, and then proceeded to assault her.
The mother, whose identity is being protected by CBC, expressed shock upon learning about a similar assault on another Ukrainian teen that occurred the day before her daughter was attacked. The Pembina Trails School Division spokesperson revealed that police had investigated incidents from October 1 and 2, leading to charges being laid in both cases. Although the exact number of charges and students charged was not disclosed, it was reported that two girls were arrested in connection with the October 2 incident.
The mother of the assaulted teen expressed anger over the lack of action taken by school officials after the initial incident and shared her concerns with the principal and superintendents. The school is now implementing a safety plan for her daughter, which includes adjusting class schedules and preventing the alleged attackers from contacting the girl. Despite offering her daughter the option to change schools, the girl preferred to stay at Oak Park High School due to her friendships there.
The mother emphasized the importance of ensuring safety at the school and expressed hope that the authorities would effectively manage the situation. She acknowledged feeling nervous but remained optimistic about the future.
