In Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, economic uncertainties have impacted various industries, but one major player, Tenaris, remains steadfast in its operations. Celebrating its 25th year in the city, Tenaris marked the occasion with a gathering of officials and dignitaries.

Tenaris reactivated its tubular mill in Sault Ste. Marie, commencing pipe production in 2000, and became the exclusive Canadian producer of seamless pipes for oil and gas extraction. In 2022, the company upgraded its plant by introducing electric resistance welded pipe manufacturing.

With over 26,000 global employees, Tenaris now employs over 800 individuals in Sault Ste. Marie, with 600 new hires in the last four years. Mayor Matthew Shoemaker highlighted Tenaris’ role in the energy sector’s growth amidst increasing energy demands.

During the anniversary celebration, Tenaris reiterated its commitment to long-term expansion in the oil, gas, and energy industries. Martin Castro, Tenaris President for Canada, noted the rising demand for their products from Canadian clients, providing stability and prompting considerations for future investments to meet the surge in seamless pipe requirements.

While recent government support aided Algoma Steel with a $500 million loan for tariff relief, Tenaris, relying more on Canadian and international customers, stated no immediate need for financial assistance. Castro praised government efforts to safeguard domestic industries, expressing confidence in the company’s future in Sault Ste. Marie without impending layoffs.

Tenaris, serving major oil and gas firms globally, reported revenues of $14.9 billion USD in 2023. The company has invested $255 million in Sault Ste. Marie’s industrial hub since 2020, aiming to enhance production capabilities and broaden product offerings in the region.
