The murder trial of the individual accused of the death of Misha Pavelick has progressed with testimony from Andrew Perkins, who was involved in a confrontation with Pavelick on the night of the incident. Perkins, who was dating Pavelick’s ex-girlfriend at the time, recounted his experience at the grad party where Pavelick was fatally stabbed in 2006.
During the trial, Perkins, now 20 years old, detailed the events of that night at the Kinookimaw campground near Regina Beach. He described a shift from casual drinking to a violent altercation between himself and Pavelick. Perkins mentioned feeling uneasy after locking eyes with Pavelick near a bonfire and asking a friend to watch his back.
Perkins recalled being struck unconscious by Pavelick with a beer bottle before retaliating with kicks and punches upon regaining consciousness. He noted the involvement of his friends, including the accused, in the altercation. Perkins also acknowledged the presence of Scott Nelson, who later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for an incident at the same party.
The testimony revealed a chaotic scene where Perkins, after briefly leaving the fight, learned of Pavelick being stabbed. Despite differing witness testimonies regarding the events leading to the stabbing, Crown prosecutor Adam Breker asserted that the evidence presented during the trial would establish the accused’s role in Pavelick’s death.
As the trial nears its conclusion, with testimony from additional witnesses such as a DNA expert and pathologist expected, the circumstances surrounding Pavelick’s stabbing remain unclear. The trial, set to span four weeks, has so far featured numerous accounts of the events that transpired on that fateful night in 2006.
