“Texas AG Sues Johnson & Johnson Over Tylenol-Autism Link”

Share

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson and Kenvue, the makers of Tylenol, alleging that they intentionally concealed the drug’s purported connections to autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This legal action followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claim linking Tylenol use during pregnancy to autism in children. Johnson & Johnson, the longtime seller of Tylenol, later created Kenvue in 2023, which now markets the brand. Kenvue has staunchly defended the safety of Tylenol, emphasizing its importance for pregnant women. The companies did not immediately respond to Paxton’s allegations. The lawsuit asserts that the defendants violated Texas laws by failing to disclose risks associated with Tylenol use during pregnancy. Paxton cited recent statements by Trump and the FDA regarding the potential risks of acetaminophen use during pregnancy. Kenvue’s stock prices dipped following the lawsuit, along with a slight decrease in Johnson & Johnson’s shares. Paxton lodged his complaint in a Texas court, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in pharmaceutical practices. The controversy surrounding Tylenol and autism remains a topic of ongoing debate within the medical community.
