“The Assembly” Returns: Celebrities Face Candid Questions

Share

CBC’s reality show, “The Assembly,” is set to launch its second season, featuring six new celebrity interviews and a diverse cast of over 30 neurodivergent and autistic adults posing the questions. Notable figures like Hudson Williams, Zach Galifianakis, and Jay Baruchel will be among the guests facing the inquisitive group this season.

The upcoming six-episode season will also showcase Ashley Callingbull, Lights, and Marie-Philip Poulin, engaging in candid “ask-anything” interviews that delve beyond traditional promotional discourse, often touching on personal matters. This raw and unscripted approach aims to foster genuine connections and provoke unexpected discussions.

Building on the success of the first season, the show will maintain a mix of familiar faces and fresh participants, emphasizing authentic interactions and moments of levity. Inspired by the French program “Les Rencontres du Papotin,” which debuted in 2022 with prominent guests like Camille Cottin and Emmanuel Macron, “The Assembly” has garnered international acclaim, featuring renowned personalities such as Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, and David Tennant.

The inaugural season of “The Assembly” received accolades including a Canadian Screen Award for best direction, three Telly Awards, and a Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival, with a nomination for a Banff Rockie Award. Jennifer Dettman, CBC’s executive director of unscripted content, and producers Stephen Sawchuk and Sean De Vries express enthusiasm for the upcoming season, promising more heartfelt conversations and genuine connections.

Produced by Vancouver-based Small Army Entertainment, the second season of “The Assembly” premieres on Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET on CBC TV and CBC Gem, with exclusive “producer’s cuts” available on CBC Gem starting at 9 a.m. ET on the same day.
