Toronto Blue Jays ticket prices are on the rise and are expected to remain high as this year’s World Series is shaping up to be one of the most expensive ever. The Blue Jays are set to play against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the World Series amidst great excitement. Despite being labeled as “Canada’s team,” the Blue Jays have not clinched a World Series title since 1993 and have often been seen as the underdogs against L.A. They currently lead the series 3-2 following a significant victory on Wednesday.
Securing tickets for the upcoming game on Friday has proven to be a challenging task, with prices continuously increasing. Data from Victory Live, a company specializing in technology and analytics for secondary-market transactions, reveals that Game 6 ticket prices are averaging over $2,000 US (approximately $2,800 Cdn), while a potential Game 7 ticket could fetch nearly $3,000 US (around $4,200 Cdn) on the resale market. According to Victory Live, prices for Game 6 have been steadily climbing each day since Tuesday.
The escalating ticket costs have left both diehard baseball enthusiasts and casual fans disappointed. Some sources have gone as far as to label this year’s World Series as the most expensive sporting event ever held in Canada. The most affordable ticket available on Ticketmaster at the time of writing was priced at $1,462.50 for a single seat in the Rogers Centre outfield district, while the cheapest option on StubHub was around $1,600.
Comparing the current ticket prices to last year’s Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows at Rogers Centre, Victory Live data indicates that Game 6 prices are slightly lower, with the average for the concert tour standing at $2,320 US. However, if the Blue Jays and Dodgers proceed to Game 7, ticket prices are expected to surpass that figure.
The exorbitant ticket prices have prompted Ontario Premier Doug Ford to address the issue, expressing concerns over potential price gouging. Ford criticized the control exerted by a single entity in the ticket market and vowed to investigate the matter. It is noteworthy that Ford’s government repealed a portion of a law in 2019 that would have placed a cap on ticket resale prices at 50% above face value.
