While much attention has been on the Wickramasinghes following the tragic incident on March 6, 2024, the Amarakoons also suffered a profound loss, which was highlighted during the recent court proceedings.
During her emotional victim impact statement from Sri Lanka via video link, Dishani Fernando, widow of Gamani Amarakoon, expressed the immense burden her late husband bore in supporting their family.
She recounted, “My husband was the pillar of our family, dedicating himself tirelessly to provide for us, including his ailing mother and sister, after enduring his own childhood loss. His absence has left us shattered and vulnerable.”

In a heartfelt letter, Asheri Amarakoon, the eldest daughter, described her father as her hero and mentor, lamenting the void his absence leaves in her life’s milestones.
The family also emphasized the profound impact of Gamini Amarakoon’s sacrifices and hard work being abruptly ended by the tragedy.
