Rock Legend Sass Jordan Dies at 65

Renowned rock vocalist Sass Jordan, who hailed from Montreal and enjoyed a successful career spanning close to four decades, has passed away at the age of 65. The sad news was confirmed by family spokesperson Eric Alper, who stated that Jordan passed away on Friday, surrounded by her loved ones, although the cause of death has not been disclosed.

Described as a unique and irreplaceable force of positivity and joy, Jordan made her mark with her debut album, “Tell Somebody,” released in 1988. She received the Juno Award for most promising female vocalist in 1989 and followed up with her successful second album, “Racine,” in 1992, featuring hits like “Make You a Believer.”

Throughout her career, Jordan earned multiple Juno Award nominations for best female vocalist and also served as a judge on all six seasons of the reality TV competition show “Canadian Idol.”

Born in Birmingham, England, on December 23, 1960, Jordan was raised in Montreal. Former president of Stony Plain Records, Geoff Kulawick, praised Jordan as a fearless and talented artist. Her last two albums, “Rebel Moon Blues” in 2020 and “Bitches Blues” in 2022, were recorded alongside her husband Derek Sharp during their time with Stony Plains.

Kulawick commended Jordan’s exceptional vocal abilities, stating that her emotional connection with her music garnered her a dedicated fan base. Canadian producer and songwriter Derek Downham shared fond memories of Jordan, highlighting her vibrant personality and comedic nature.

As a pioneer for women in the rock music scene, Jordan paved the way for other female artists in a predominantly male-dominated industry. Downham emphasized Jordan’s influence on aspiring performers and her legacy of leading with love and inspiration.
