Abigail Strate, a Canadian athlete from Calgary, clinched the bronze medal in the women’s ski jumping World Cup event held on Wednesday. Scoring 222.3 points in the normal hill competition, Strate secured her fourth World Cup medal this season, with one gold, two silvers, and now one bronze.
Previously, Strate garnered three medals in the large hill category, which will be featured for the first time at the upcoming Milano-Cortina Games. During the event, Austria’s Lisa Eder (227.9) and Slovakia’s Nika Prevc (226.5) claimed the top two spots, with Strate following closely behind.
Expressing her satisfaction with the competition, Strate reflected on her performance, stating, “I’m quite happy with today, especially the qualifying jump as I took some time off competition and then came back here, so I think my expectations were a little high yesterday.” She finished ninth in the World Cup event the day before and is now eagerly anticipating the upcoming competitions of the season.
Looking forward to her second Olympic appearance in Italy this February, the 24-year-old Strate previously participated in the 2022 Games, finishing 23rd in the individual normal hill event and earning a bronze in the mixed team event.
With her sights set on the Milano-Cortina Games, Strate is poised to continue her impressive performance on the international stage.
