Los Angeles celebrated the 1,000-day countdown to the city’s inaugural Paralympic Games by presenting an initial competition timetable for the 2028 event. The LA28 organizing committee revealed that the Games will encompass 23 sports and 560 medal events held across 294 sessions. This schedule was carefully crafted in collaboration with international federations and Olympic Broadcasting Services to ensure a harmonious balance between athlete well-being and global broadcasting opportunities.

Ileana Rodriguez, the LA28 vice president of Paralympic strategy and relations, emphasized the significance of Los Angeles hosting its first Paralympic Games, stating that the competition schedule was tailored to meet the needs of the athletes while also engaging the global audience. Mayor Karen Bass highlighted that the 2028 event will witness a record number of female athletes competing on the international stage.

The 2028 Paralympics will kick off with the opening ceremony on August 15 at SoFi Stadium and conclude on August 27 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The first champions of the Paralympics in Los Angeles will be crowned on the inaugural day, with competitions in Para athletics, wheelchair fencing, shooting Para sport, Para equestrian, and Para track cycling. Notably, Para climbing will make its Paralympic debut with a four-day competition starting on Day 9, alongside extended formats for wheelchair rugby and sitting volleyball, featuring play-in rounds.

A more detailed, event-specific schedule is anticipated to be released in 2026.
