The Windsor International Film Festival is set to showcase 231 movie titles during its upcoming edition, running from October 23 to November 2 in downtown Windsor. The festival, known as WIFF 2025, will offer a diverse selection of films spanning various genres and originating from different parts of the world.
Vincent Georgie, the festival’s executive director and chief programmer, expressed enthusiasm about several screenings during an interview with CBC’s Dalson Chen. One of the highlighted films is “You Are Here: A Come From Away Story,” a documentary recounting the remarkable events in Gander, N.L., following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The screening will feature special guests, including residents of Gander and some of the passengers who experienced the town’s hospitality.
Another film, “Sentimental Value,” explores fractured family relationships in a Norwegian-English comedy-drama. Georgie praised the film’s performances and highlighted its recognition at the Cannes Film Festival.
The closing film of WIFF 2025, “After the Hunt,” starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield, delves into the sensitive topic of sexual assault allegations in a university setting. Director Luca Guadagnino is known for his intricate storytelling, promising a thought-provoking viewing experience.
Additionally, Dalson Chen shared his picks for the festival, including “Shamed,” a Windsor-made documentary investigating controversial online vigilante Jason Nassr. The film challenges viewers to consider the complexities of individuals accused of predatory behavior.
“Modern Whore,” a documentary featuring Andrea Werhun’s experiences in sex work, offers a candid and humorous perspective on the industry. The film includes interviews with various individuals connected to Werhun’s journey.
Lastly, “Ai Weiwei’s Turandot” provides insight into the renowned artist’s unexpected venture into directing an opera production. The documentary captures the behind-the-scenes process of staging Puccini’s opera with modern visual elements.
WIFF 2025 aims to deliver a captivating and diverse lineup of films, catering to a wide range of audiences and sparking meaningful conversations within the community.
