Vancouver has been chosen as the location for Canada’s Davis Cup Qualifiers first-round match against Brazil, as confirmed by Tennis Canada on Thursday. The competition will be held on February 6-7 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre situated on the University of British Columbia campus.

The winning team from the best-of-five tie will progress to the second round of the international men’s tournament, scheduled for September 2026. Canada, ranked ninth, will face off against Brazil, ranked 18th, with Canada having a strong home record, winning 10 out of their last 12 ties on home soil. The last encounter between the two teams was in 2007 during the Group I Americas stage, where Brazil emerged victorious with a score of 3-1.

The Canadian team has a successful history in Vancouver, winning their last three Davis Cup ties in the city, which included notable victories over Spain and Italy in 2013, leading to a semifinal appearance, as well as a 3-2 win against Japan in 2015.

Canada secured their spot in the 2026 tournament qualifiers after defeating Israel 4-0 in World Group I play last September amid protests. The match in Halifax took place without spectators due to protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.

In 2022, Canada claimed their sole Davis Cup title by defeating Australia but faced setbacks in subsequent years. They were relegated to the qualifying pool after losses to Germany and Hungary in 2024 and 2025 respectively.

The upcoming tie against Brazil promises to be an exciting clash as Canada aims to continue their impressive record on home turf and progress further in the prestigious tournament.
