“Dua Lipa Sues Samsung for $15M Over Image Misuse”

British singer Dua Lipa has initiated legal action against Samsung Electronics, seeking a minimum of $15 million in damages. The lawsuit alleges that Samsung unlawfully utilized an image of Dua Lipa on the front of TV boxes without her permission, suggesting her endorsement of the product. The image in question, titled “Dua Lipa – Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024,” is owned by Dua Lipa, who holds all rights to the image. The lawsuit was filed in a California federal court on Friday.

Samsung Electronics declined to provide a comment on the ongoing legal matter. Dua Lipa’s legal representatives have not yet responded to requests for comments regarding the case. Alongside claims of copyright and trademark infringement, Lipa has accused Samsung Electronics of violating her publicity rights.

Supporting their claims, Lipa’s lawyers included screenshots of social media interactions where individuals expressed intentions to purchase the TV due to Dua Lipa’s presence on the packaging. Despite Lipa’s demands for Samsung to cease using her image since June last year, the company purportedly continued to do so, disregarding her requests.

The unauthorized use of Dua Lipa’s image by Samsung has allegedly led to the dilution of her brand identity and commercial reputation by misleading consumers into believing she endorses the products.
