“Gang Member Exposes Secrets in Murder Trial”

Andrew Rosenfeldt provided details about various Saskatoon gang members in a videotaped interview with authorities shortly after Nykera Brown was fatally shot on November 15, 2022. The recorded interview with Sgt. Brock Lynden was played during Rosenfeldt’s trial for second-degree murder at the Court of King’s Bench.

During the trial’s second day, Crown witness Catherine “Cat” Iron shed light on the gang’s operations and its members, implicating Rosenfeldt in Brown’s death. Iron mentioned Rosenfeldt’s alleged attempt to stage Brown’s death as a suicide.

The courtroom atmosphere took on a gang-related tone when a Crown witness clad in all black appeared, prompting Justice Heather MacMillan-Brown to request the individual to reveal their face for identification purposes.

In the video, Rosenfeldt discussed Brown’s associates in the Terror Squad gang, mentioning individuals like “Cat” and “Cole the Hole,” along with a higher-ranking figure known as “DJ.” He denied requesting legal representation and recounted a story involving armed men breaking into the apartment after Brown’s friends had left.

Despite Rosenfeldt’s claims, Lynden expressed doubt about the narrative, pointing out inconsistencies. The police officer highlighted prior investigations in the area, including a previous shooting involving Brown. Surveillance footage from a neighboring building contradicted Rosenfeldt’s version of events.

Iron testified later that she, alongside Cole Zimmerman, visited Brown and Rosenfeldt in the apartment, where they engaged in drug use. She described finding a gun wrapped in tape, which Brown moved wearing gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints. The group later left to meet a friend, and Iron last saw Brown when she returned to the apartment.

During cross-examination, Iron faced scrutiny over discrepancies in her testimonies and allegations of signaling between Rosenfeldt and his mother in court. Iron accused Rosenfeldt of the crime and distanced herself from the gang, explaining gang terminology and dynamics.

Iron’s testimony is set to resume the following day as the trial continues.
