Prime Minister Mark Carney warmly received Canadian tennis sensation Victoria Mboko at Parliament Hill, commending the Toronto teenager for her exceptional performance on the WTA Tour this season. During their meeting at his West Block office, Carney, along with Mboko’s family, viewed the trophy she earned at the National Bank Open in Montreal earlier this summer.
Expressing his pride on behalf of all Canadians, Carney conveyed his admiration for Mboko’s achievements at such a young age. He described the National Bank Open trophy as a symbol of her determination, resilience, and remarkable talent.
Following the exchange, Mboko autographed the tennis racket she used to secure her victory in Montreal. Carney, visibly surprised, exclaimed with excitement, promising to display it prominently. In a light-hearted moment, Mboko playfully suggested Carney could use the racket to play, to which he chuckled and admitted his tennis skills were not up to par.
Starting the season ranked 350th globally, Mboko climbed to a career-best 18th position after claiming victories in two tournaments, notably the prestigious WTA 1000-level National Bank Open.
