Alpine Canada introduced its lineup for the 2025/26 season, unveiling a talented young skier who had a remarkable first year with the FIS. Among the roster of athletes listed alphabetically by first name in the official announcement on Oct. 3, one standout was Samuel Peters, a 17-year-old Para skier from Kelowna.
Peters’ journey to becoming the youngest team member and a successful competitor did not begin on the slopes but rather at age six when he was invited to try sit-skiing while at a grocery store with his mother. Through the Powderhounds Adaptive Program at Big White Ski Resort, Peters gradually developed his skills under the guidance of coach Sarah Morris-Probert.
Transitioning to ski racing with the Big White Ski Club, Peters trained diligently and excelled, eventually earning a spot to represent Canada alongside Finley Cashin in Ski Cross. His dedication paid off as he competed in various disciplines like slalom, giant slalom, and super-G at international Para competitions, achieving impressive speeds and securing multiple podium finishes.
Despite his young age, Peters faced seasoned Paralympians on the circuit with composure and confidence. Training rigorously for the current season, he remains focused on delivering top-notch performances and aims to secure podium placements. Following a strong showing at the Southern Hemisphere Cup in Chile, Peters is gearing up for upcoming competitions in Austria with a new Tessier sit-skiing rig, which he likens to a high-performance racing car.
Looking ahead, Peters is optimistic about his prospects at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympics, viewing the event as a stepping stone towards future Games. With a long-term commitment to his sport, Peters is determined to leave a lasting mark in the skiing world, setting his sights on continued success in the 2025-26 season and beyond.
