A large Canadian ship is currently stranded in the Detroit River, positioned between downtown Detroit and downtown Windsor. The vessel in question, the Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin, measuring 225 meters and bound for Quebec City, is experiencing difficulty navigating the waterway.
The U.S. Coast Guard has confirmed that they are closely monitoring the situation, describing it as a “soft grounding” of the ship. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries, environmental pollution, or disruptions to marine traffic as a result of the incident.
To assist the stranded ship, a pair of tug boats have been deployed to the scene. However, due to low visibility during the nighttime hours, the U.S. Coast Guard has announced that plans to refloat the vessel will be evaluated on Saturday morning.
