Entertainment lawyer Kurt Dahl explained that concertgoers have limited rights, primarily ensuring the seat paid for and a show to some extent. The fine print often includes disclaimers about event schedules being subject to change without notice, leaving consumers with little recourse in the case of unexpected delays disrupting their plans.
Ashish Sharma from the Consumers Council of Canada highlighted the lack of statutory rights for customers in the event of extensive concert delays, emphasizing the importance of prompt communication from organizers. As live entertainment expenditure rises, fans incur additional costs beyond tickets, with unforeseen delays causing frustration but limited automatic refund options.
While ticket contracts offer minimal rights, consumers may exert influence through public pressure to hold artists and event organizers accountable for delayed performances. Despite experiencing the concert, Walia believed a partial refund or credit toward a future show would have been appropriate given the circumstances.
