Patrick Garland recalled the last encounter he had with Joshua Qiyuk, the aspiring chef, as Qiyuk left the restaurant after his shift. Garland bid him farewell, expecting to see him the next day. The following morning, Qiyuk’s lifeless body was discovered in the 400 block of Meadow Park Place, a serene residential area in Ottawa’s eastern region, having fallen victim to a fatal stabbing at the age of 21.
Police identified the deceased as 21-year-old Joshua Qiyuk, found dead on an east-end street Wednesday morning.
Matthieu Boisvert, a local resident, stumbled upon the body on Wednesday morning, describing the discovery as surreal. Reflecting on the incident, Boisvert acknowledged the emotional toll it took on Qiyuk’s loved ones and acquaintances, emphasizing the greater impact beyond his own experience.

A Tragic Loss
Friends and acquaintances of Qiyuk in Ottawa fondly remember him as a diligent and cheerful individual. Garland’s initial encounter with Qiyuk occurred over two years ago when the ambitious teen approached the restaurant seeking an opportunity, impressing Garland with his readiness and enthusiasm.
