A brief elopement plan transformed into a large wedding celebration for 70 guests on a B.C. Ferries vessel along the northern coast of British Columbia. B.C. Ferries workers, Jordyn Sankey, 23, and Leslie Fox, 41, initially clashed but later fell in love while serving on the Northern Expedition route. Sankey, a customer service attendant, and Fox, a third-class engineer, bonded during their shifts aboard the vessel, which can sail up to 18 hours between stops.
Despite their rocky start, the couple grew closer after sharing meals and coffee. Last April, during a spontaneous trip to Yellowstone National Park, they decided to get married. However, their wedding plans became overwhelming, especially due to Sankey’s extensive family and escalating costs. Eventually, they opted for a small ceremony to honor their shared history.
With the help of B.C. Ferries, the couple tied the knot in the ship’s Aurora lounge, supported by the crew who provided essentials like a cake, flowers, and gifts. While B.C. Ferries does not typically host weddings, they occasionally accommodate special ceremonies like this one. The intimate ceremony unexpectedly expanded to include the entire crew, creating a joyous and memorable event for the newlyweds.
The couple described the ceremony as stress-free and heartwarming, surrounded by their “B.C. Ferries family.” Sankey expressed her happiness at being married and feeling a sense of completion. The couple, expecting their first child in May, embraced the unexpected turn of events that led to a beautiful celebration of their love.
