Despite already securing a spot at the upcoming Winter Games, Canadian ski cross athlete Courtney Hoffos did not hold back in her approach to competition. In a recent Instagram post, she expressed her commitment to racing hard in every heat, even though she now faces the challenge of missing the Milan-Cortina Olympics due to knee surgery following a crash in Switzerland.
Unfortunately, injuries have also dashed the Olympic hopes of two other Canadian contenders, ski cross racer India Sherret and snowboarder Liam Brearley.
Hoffos underwent surgery to address injuries to her tibial plateau, medial collateral ligament, and meniscus. The tibial plateau is the flat top surface of the shin bone, while the meniscus is a crucial knee cartilage that provides cushioning between the thigh and shin bones.
Expressing gratitude for her support system and medical team in Switzerland, Hoffos emphasized the importance of focusing on recovery, spending time with family during the holiday season, and appreciating the small joys in life.
Courtney Hoffos, the silver medalist from the 2025 world championships, announced her withdrawal from the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics after a ski cross accident in Arosa, Switzerland.
At 28 years old, Hoffos achieved a silver medal at the World Cup season opener in Val Thorens, France, earning her a place at the Winter Games. Her remarkable comeback included a successful recovery from a previous ACL injury, leading to impressive performances in various competitions and world championships.
Similarly, Sherret and Brearley shared their setbacks on social media, revealing their inability to compete at the Olympics due to severe knee injuries.
Sherret, a participant in the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, disclosed tearing her ACL and MCL during a crash in Val Thorens, scheduling surgery for late January.
Brearley, a renowned slopestyle world champion, recently underwent surgery for knee and ankle injuries sustained during training in November, forcing him to withdraw from the Winter Games. Despite the disappointment, Brearley remains optimistic about his recovery and future competitions.
