The Prime Video series, “Every Year After,” which is based on Carley Fortune’s popular romance novel “Every Summer After,” has been greenlit for a second season. The show, featuring Sadie Soverall and Matt Cornett, and executive produced by Carley Fortune, premiered earlier this summer.

The plot of “Every Summer After” revolves around Percy and Sam, childhood friends whose relationship was fractured by a pivotal event that separated them, leading to a complex love story when they reunite years later at a funeral. The next season of “Every Year After” will draw inspiration from “One Golden Summer,” the second installment of Fortune’s series set in Barry’s Bay, Ontario.

In “One Golden Summer,” the focus shifts to Sam’s brother, Charlie, who finally experiences a long-awaited romance. The narrative centers on Alice, a photographer seeking a tranquil summer at her childhood retreat with her grandmother. However, her plans are disrupted when Charlie, charismatic and impossible to ignore, unexpectedly returns. Alice is soon plunged into a whirlwind of emotions, reminiscent of her teenage years, as she contemplates the possibility of a romance beyond her expectations.

Peter Friendlander, Prime Video’s head of global TV, expressed enthusiasm for the overwhelming response to “Every Year After,” highlighting the broad appeal of Carley Fortune’s storytelling and the strong bond audiences have formed with the Barry’s Bay universe.

Carley Fortune, a renowned Toronto-based journalist and bestselling author, has a rich editorial background, having contributed to reputable publications such as Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Among her notable works are “Meet Me at the Lake,” “Every Summer After,” “One Golden Summer,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Our Perfect Storm.”

“Meet Me at the Lake” was a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion content creator and model Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show.

“Every Year After” is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
