Finnish captain Aron Kiviharju praised the U.S. team’s skill and coaching but expressed satisfaction in avenging their previous defeat. Finland will now face Sweden in the upcoming semifinals, while Canada is set to play against the Czech Republic. Sweden triumphed over Latvia 6-3, Canada dominated Slovakia with a 7-1 win, and the Czech Republic defeated Switzerland 6-2.
The United States managed to tie the game late in the third period, but Finland’s Lee Tuuva and Joona Saarelainen quickly turned the tide with two goals. Despite efforts from players like Boston University’s Cole Hutson, who returned after missing two games due to injury, Finland emerged victorious.
The U.S. team faced back-to-back losses in the tournament, ending their journey after falling to Sweden and Finland. Coach Bob Motzko commended his players’ efforts despite the disappointing outcome. In other matches, Sweden defeated Latvia with Anton Frondell scoring twice, while the Czech Republic secured a 6-2 win against Switzerland.
Additionally, in the relegation game, Germany secured an 8-4 victory over Denmark, ensuring their place in the main event for the following year while Denmark dropped to Division I-A.
