“Football Frenzy in Saskatchewan: Hardy Cup, CFL Western Division Final & CJFL National Championship Await”

Share

This weekend promises a thrilling lineup for football enthusiasts in Saskatchewan. The Saskatoon Hilltops are contending for a national championship, while the University of Saskatchewan Huskies will face off against the University of Regina Rams in the Hardy Cup. Additionally, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are set to clash with the B.C. Lions in the CFL Western Division final, with a coveted Grey Cup spot up for grabs.

Kicking off the action on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Saskatoon at Griffiths Stadium, the Huskies (7-1) and Rams (6-2) will renew their rivalry in a rematch of last year’s Hardy Cup, which saw the Rams emerge victorious. Both teams’ coaches, Scott Flory and Mark McConkey, anticipate a fiercely contested match, emphasizing the physicality and discipline characteristic of Saskatchewan football.

Rams linebacker Brandon Wong, a Canada West all-star, foresees a closely fought battle that may come down to the final moments. The absence of key players like Huskie quarterback Anton Amunrud and Rams star running back Marshall Erichsen, who is sidelined with an Achilles injury, adds an element of uncertainty to the matchup.

In the event of a win, the victorious team will host the Ontario champion in the Mitchell Bowl, with the ultimate prize being a berth in the Vanier Cup, to be hosted by Regina.

Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, having secured first place weeks ago, are gearing up to face the B.C. Lions in the Canada West final on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Mosaic Stadium. The Riders, led by head coach Corey Mace, are eager to redeem last year’s West final loss and are bolstered by the return of defensive standout Roland Milligan Jr. and a full roster of top receivers.

On Sunday, the Saskatoon Hilltops will take on the Okanagan Sun in the Canadian Junior Football League national championship. The Hilltops, with a storied history of 23 national titles, are poised to showcase their resilience and determination after overcoming challenges throughout the season.

With each game promising high stakes and intense competition, football fans across Saskatchewan are in for an action-packed weekend of gridiron excitement.
