John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In a recent statement, Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to shape the organization’s future.
Tory’s tenure officially commences on October 1, as announced in a press release on Thursday. The upcoming festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position of chair since 2021.
In his farewell remarks, Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his everlasting pride in his contributions to the festival’s evolution. Additionally, TIFF disclosed the appointment of three new board members: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch EchevarrÃa. Furthermore, the organization bid farewell to Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, extending gratitude for her dedication and valuable contributions.
