The announcement has been made that the Guelph Storm will be the host of the 2027 Memorial Cup. The Canadian Hockey League revealed this news, highlighting that the team will hold the national hockey championship during the city’s bicentennial year. Canadian Hockey League president Dan MacKenzie expressed admiration for the Storm’s bid, emphasizing their organizational strength, passion, vision, and community spirit that make Guelph a unique junior hockey market. He anticipates an extraordinary event that will honor Guelph’s history and the tournament’s tradition, promising an exceptional experience for players, fans, and partners.
Earlier, the Guelph team was named a finalist to host the Memorial Cup alongside the Kitchener Rangers. Following this announcement, both teams underwent further evaluations by an independent panel consisting of five individuals with extensive sports experience. Scott Walker, Guelph Storm partner and president of hockey operations, expressed immense pride in being selected as the Memorial Cup host city, emphasizing the significance of bringing this prestigious event to Guelph during its bicentennial year. Mayor Cam Guthrie also conveyed his excitement, stating that the event will be the highlight of Guelph’s 2027 bicentennial celebrations.
The Memorial Cup is scheduled to take place in Guelph in the spring of 2027, with specific dates to be disclosed closer to the event. The upcoming Memorial Cup will be held in Kelowna, B.C., from May 21 to 31, 2026.
