Jake Paul confirmed on Saturday that he suffered a “double broken jaw” in his defeat against former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Joshua secured a sixth-round knockout over Paul, who later shared an X-ray revealing the double jaw fracture.
Posting on Instagram, Paul wrote, “Double broken jaw. Give me Canelo in 10 days.” In another post from what seemed to be a hospital room, he expressed gratitude for the support received, stating, “thanks for all the support I’m OK.”
During the heavyweight contest, Joshua delivered a powerful blow to Paul’s jaw, causing the American to hit the canvas for the fourth time. Concerns arose before the fight due to the mismatch in size and skills, with Paul weighing in at 216 lbs and Joshua at 243 lbs.
Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, showcased his elite punching abilities by dropping Paul twice in the fifth round. Sensing Paul’s vulnerability, Joshua landed a right uppercut early in the sixth round, followed by a combination that sent Paul down.
Despite Paul (12-2) managing to rise to his feet multiple times, Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) ultimately ended Paul’s hopes of an upset by knocking him down for the fourth time with a right to the head. Referee Christopher Young stopped the fight at 1:31 of the round in front of a full crowd of 19,600 at the Kaseya Center.
Reflecting on the match, Joshua acknowledged Paul’s resilience, stating, “Jake Paul’s done really well tonight… He came up against a real fighter.” With this win, Joshua now aims to reclaim the heavyweight title he lost to Oleksandr Usyk and potentially set up a future fight with Tyson Fury, who is currently retired following losses to Usyk in 2024.
This fight marked Joshua’s return to the ring after being knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September 2024. The match saw Joshua control the pace early on, with Paul trying to land significant punches but ultimately falling short.
Paul, who began his boxing career in January 2020, had initially planned an exhibition with Gervonta Davis but ended up facing Joshua due to Davis’s legal issues. Among the notable personalities in attendance were Rory McIlroy, Juan Soto, Dave Portnoy, Michael Irvin, and Brandon Marshall.
In an undercard bout, Anderson Silva secured a second-round TKO against Tyron Woodley, while Alycia Baumgardner claimed a unanimous decision victory over Leila Beaudoin.
