Kansas City NFL Team Addresses Domestic Violence Allegations

Share

The NFL team in Kansas City issued a statement acknowledging allegations of domestic violence raised by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice through social media posts. The team confirmed they were in contact with the NFL regarding the matter but refrained from mentioning Rice by name, stating that they would not provide further comments presently.

The ex-girlfriend, Dacoda Nichole Jones, posted photos on Instagram suggesting signs of physical abuse without directly naming Rice. She identified the individual involved as the father of her children, with Rice being the father of her two children. Rice, who was chosen by Kansas City in the second round of the 2023 draft, did not have any police reports filed against him in Overland Park, Kansas, where the alleged abuse took place.

Rice sat out the initial six games of the season due to an NFL suspension stemming from his involvement in a crash on a Dallas highway during the 2024 offseason. He received a 30-day jail sentence and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to third-degree felony charges related to the incident. Despite his off-field issues, Rice had a productive season with 53 receptions, 571 yards, and five touchdowns as Kansas City struggled to a 6-11 record, missing the playoffs for the first time in ten years.
