Lil Nas X recently shared details about his bipolar disorder diagnosis and time spent in rehab on Instagram. The pop star mentioned undergoing rehab, reconnecting with family, seeking therapy and medication, and expressed optimism about creating new music soon.
While discussing his struggles, Lil Nas X humorously referred to his challenges as “living life on extreme hard-mode” due to being Black, gay, and bipolar. He also touched on his improved mental state, creativity, and reduced fear, indicating a positive outlook moving forward.
The post did not directly address the incident last summer when the artist was accused of assaulting Los Angeles police officers. At that time, Lil Nas X, born Montero Lamar Hill, faced charges after allegedly engaging with officers while nearly naked on an L.A. street. Subsequently, he was released on bail after three days in custody and pleaded not guilty to charges of battery and resisting an officer.
Following the legal proceedings, Lil Nas X entered a mental health diversion program, allowing for potential dismissal of charges if he adheres to treatment and abides by the law for two years. The court attributed the incident to his bipolar disorder, noting it as an anomaly in his behavior.
Lil Nas X rose to fame in 2019 with the hit “Old Town Road,” which sparked debates over its genre classification and racial implications in the music industry. The artist’s career has been marked by both success and controversy, including his public coming out as gay and provocative artistic choices that garnered mixed reactions from audiences and critics.
His bold artistic expressions, such as the “Satan shoes” campaign and devil-themed music video, sparked backlash from conservative groups. Despite the controversies, Lil Nas X continues to push boundaries with his music and is currently working on new projects, including the anticipated album “Dreamboy.”
