A man, aged 31 from Hamilton, has been taken into custody in connection with the painting of a Nazi swastika on a business located in the downtown area back in September, as per police reports. The individual has been formally charged with property mischief, according to a news release issued by the authorities on Thursday. The police credited the arrest to valuable information provided by community members who witnessed the incident.

In a statement, the police emphasized the importance of reporting any instances of hate-motivated graffiti to them. They highlighted that such acts not only constitute vandalism but also represent an assault on the dignity of both individuals and communities. The offense occurred on September 11 at a business near the intersection of James Street N. and Murray Street W., where surveillance footage captured the crime taking place.

On the same day, a passerby notified CBC Hamilton of additional antisemitic graffiti, including a swastika, on a building along James Street S. By the time CBC arrived at the scene, efforts were already underway to clean up the graffiti. Law enforcement authorities assured that they would conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
