Marie-Philip Poulin netted her second goal in overtime, leading the Montreal Victoire to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Frost in a Professional Women’s Hockey League match on Sunday. Poulin’s backhand shot found the back of the net past goaltender Maddie Rooney in front of a packed crowd of 10,172 at Place Bell, extending her impressive five-game point streak.
In addition to Poulin’s stellar performance, Abby Roque also contributed a goal for Montreal, with Poulin assisting on the play for a total of three points. Ann-Renee Desbiens made 19 saves for the Victoire.
For Minnesota, Mae Batherson and Kendall Coyne Schofield found the back of the net, with Rooney making 35 saves in her second consecutive start. Late goals in the third period forced the game into overtime.
Coyne Schofield put Minnesota ahead 2-1 with just 1:50 remaining, but Roque equalized with a tip-in from Poulin in the final moments of regulation. Batherson had opened the scoring in the second period with a shot from the left circle.
Roque and Poulin combined again in the third period, with Poulin scoring to tie the game at 1-1. Despite being outshot by Minnesota in the first period, Montreal dominated overall with a 38-21 shot advantage.
Montreal played without Erin Ambrose due to illness, while Minnesota’s Dominique Petrie left the game with an injury.
Minnesota concluded a busy four-game road trip, earning six out of a possible 12 points. Montreal, led by Poulin, ended a three-game losing streak and climbed out of the bottom of the PWHL standings. Kendall Cooper’s assist on Batherson’s goal set a new PWHL record with six consecutive games with an assist.
In the next matches, Montreal will face the Vancouver Goldeneyes in Quebec City, while Minnesota will host the Seattle Torrent.
