A man has been formally accused of first-degree murder in connection with the vanishing of Robbie Thomson in Smiths Falls. The individual in question jointly possesses a property with another absent individual, a location currently undergoing an extensive search by the Ontario Provincial Police.
Public records reveal that Robert Lambert procured the densely forested plot on Kelly Jordan Road in Montague Township near Smiths Falls back in 2004. Christopher Fenton became a co-owner in April 2018, just three months before Lambert’s last sighting. The property was fully paid off in 2019.
Lambert was reported missing on November 30, 2018. He had relocated to the Smiths Falls region from the U.S. many years ago to be with his future wife, Kathryn Lambert, who passed away in 2016.
The son of Kathryn Lambert, Jonathan Botham, conveyed to CBC News that the family is eager for closure after a prolonged period of uncertainty. Botham emphasized the community’s shared anticipation for answers and requested privacy during this tumultuous time.
According to Botham, Robert Lambert was a compassionate spouse to his mother, and her demise took a toll on him. Botham stressed the importance of justice for Lambert and closure for those familiar with him.
Despite initial reports indicating Lambert had returned to the U.S. before his disappearance, there is no record of him crossing the border. Investigator Bill Dickson refrained from disclosing the source of this misinformation.
A monetary reward of $50,000 was put forward earlier this year in connection with the unsolved case.
While Lambert’s case is officially classified as a missing person investigation, suspicions of foul play persist. The ongoing search at the Kelly Jordan Road property yielded human remains on Thursday, as announced by the OPP. The recovered remains are undergoing forensic analysis for identification purposes.
The search operation at the property is extensive and will continue for an undetermined duration, with a significant deployment of officers dedicated to the task. Dickson refrained from divulging specific details about the location of the remains found.
