Tens of thousands of music enthusiasts gathered at the Great Park in Irvine, California, for a unique event supporting women’s health, reproductive rights, and the fight against gender-based violence. The Daisy Chain Fields charity festival, organized by pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo, echoed the spirit of the groundbreaking Lilith Fair from the 1990s with an all-female lineup.
The festival showcased a mix of established and emerging talent, featuring artists like Chappell Roan, Doechii, Bikini Kill, and Garbage. Prior to the festival, Rodrigo announced that they had raised $10 million for 10 non-profit partners, which was generously matched by Melinda French Gates to reach a total of $20 million in donations.
Rodrigo’s vision for the festival, announced in June, was to have stars perform for free, with all proceeds benefiting organizations dedicated to empowering women and girls. The event included special performances, such as Rodrigo singing “Landslide” with Stevie Nicks and a surprise appearance by Alanis Morissette, who sang “Ironic” with Rodrigo, making a poignant lyrical change that resonated with the audience.
The festival also highlighted the importance of reproductive rights, especially in the current political climate in the US. With ongoing challenges to women’s rights, including changes to federal family planning programs, the event served as a platform to raise awareness and funds for crucial causes.
Featuring a diverse lineup of 14 artists, including Mitski, Santigold, and The Breeders, the festival offered attendees more than just music.
