Regina boasts a remarkable group of resilient women, as evidenced by the success of three local athletes who secured medals at an international powerlifting event recently. Sherry McEachern, aged 58, clinched second place in her category at the World Masters Powerlifting Championships in South Africa, expressing the intense emotions that accompany such achievements. Sandi Klempner, 42, who placed third in her category and impressively deadlifted over 390 pounds in her debut on the global stage, shared her exhilaration at surpassing her own expectations. Emmannuelle Archambault, 49, also made her mark by breaking her own national record with a bench press of 214.9 pounds during the competition.

These exceptional women were part of a Canadian delegation of 14 female athletes who competed at the championship. Klempner highlighted the supportive environment for middle-aged women in the Saskatchewan community, emphasizing the inclusive nature of gyms that cater to individuals of all ages and body types. Archambault echoed this sentiment, noting the welcoming atmosphere that drew her to powerlifting after years of bodybuilding competitions that required extreme dieting.

McEachern, who delved into powerlifting two years ago, emphasized her motivation to test her limits and maintain strength for her family, particularly her young grandson. The trio of athletes shared how their children admire their strength and determination, with Klempner’s daughters and Archambault’s sons expressing pride in their mothers’ accomplishments.

As these women continue to inspire with their feats of strength and resilience, they hope to encourage others to pursue their passions without delay. McEachern, in particular, aims to empower individuals by showcasing what is achievable at any age, emphasizing the importance of taking that initial step towards one’s goals.
