A man from Saskatchewan is relaunching his hot dog truck business after a decade, thanks to a photographer who stumbled upon the truck during a drive through the province. Kenny Chaplin acquired the Diggity Dawgs truck in 2008 from a film crew and operated it until 2015 when he sold it to spend more time with his young daughter. Not hearing about it since, he assumed it had gone to Manitoba and moved on. However, at a recent music festival, someone recognized him as the former hot dog vendor, sparking his interest in the truck again.
Chaplin’s daughter found a photo of the truck posted by Grant Miller, a photographer from rural Colorado, who unexpectedly encountered the unique truck while driving through Saskatchewan. Miller described the moment as he came over a hill and saw the distinctive hot dog-themed truck in all its glory, prompting him to capture the scene in photos. After contacting Miller, Chaplin was able to track down the truck’s location with the help of satellite views on Google Maps.
Thrilled by the discovery, Chaplin and his daughter embarked on a road trip to reclaim the truck, which had been neglected for years. Despite its condition, Chaplin managed to purchase it and is now restoring it to its former glory. He plans to operate the food truck in Chamberlain, Saskatchewan, at a strategic location near two highways, where he aims to serve hot dogs to passing drivers. Excited about the prospect, Chaplin looks forward to bringing smiles to customers’ faces with the oversized hot dog on his truck.
